If you have a pool at your home, then you’ve fulfilled almost every person’s childhood dream. Especially during this 2020 summer season, many more people are going to be staying at their backyard pool instead of heading to the beach or a public pool to swim.
And why wouldn’t you? Lounging by your own private pool with your closest friends & family, smelling the BBQ, a cold glass of iced tea in your hand… what could be better?
We’ll tell you: some new pool tile ideas & designs. Make your pool look and feel as great as it can be with some new tiles and designs to freshen it up.
Here are just a few fun pool tile designs and ideas to consider for your backyard oasis.
Iridescent glass mosaic tiles are a classic pool tile for a reason! Water and sunshine reflects beautifully off of these iridescent mosaics creating a sparkling and colorful pool for you to enjoy.
Glass mosaics are also naturally water resistant, making them perfect for outdoor tile options both in the pool and poolside! Glass mosaic tiles can be as simple as a single color or complex & intricate with multiple designs, colors, and shapes (check out some examples here ).
Glass mosaic tiles look and feel luxurious with their shine, reflections, and wide array of colors and styles. They’ll make your pool feel like a high-end resort!
Mediterranian styles and pools go together like porcelain tile and bathrooms. (For the non-tile obsessed, that’s like peanut butter and jelly).
With the bright and vibrant colors of orange, red, yellow, blue, and bright white combined with beautiful rustic wood, terra cotta accents, and painted tiles, Mediterranean design elements go perfectly with an outdoor pool area.
Try out colorful outdoor porcelain tile to stand up against the elements without sacrificing style. Porcelain can come in a wide variety of colors and designs; Tiles Plus More can help you find those Meriterranian styles that you’re looking for.
Throw in a lemon tree, a fountain, and a few copper accents and you’ll feel like you’re on vacation in the Grecian islands.

Natural stone tiles create a natural and seamless look in an outdoor space. However, it’s best to keep your natural stone tiles far from the pool, keeping them on the patio or pool deck instead of in the pool.
Why? Natural stone tiles can absorb water thanks to their porous surface. You can seal these stones with a sealant to protect them from scratches and water damage, but we still don’t recommend having them too close to your pool because of their susceptibility to damage.
That doesn’t mean you can’t have stone-look tiles, though! Porcelain tiles come in a variety of styles including styles that simulate different types of natural stone like marble-look tiles, for example. These give you the water resistance you need along with the aesthetic of natural stone.
There’s nothing wrong with keeping your pool tile ideas and designs simple! Sometimes, the simplest and most sleek designs work best for a modern aesthetic.
Solid blues ranging from dark navy to light & iridescent blues are common for pool areas since they align well with the water. The reflection of the blue can help with pool safety as well, helping you understand the depth of the water and where the side walls are. White is another common choice with different color grouting in between to add a bit of depth and texture.
If you want to think outside the box, check out this sleek, black tiled pool. It’s not recommended to do a completely black pool for safety reasons, but sleek black accents can add a lot to a modern pool design.
We hope that some of these pool tile ideas & design tips helped inspire your next pool project! And if you’re still not sure, remember: these are just four design options of the hundreds of tile designs and styles available to you!
